The Ministry of Health and Medical Services has expressed profound sorrow over the passing of Dr. Jemesa Tudravu, the Permanent Secretary for Health and Medical Services, who left us on Saturday, December 27, 2025. This announcement followed the completion of traditional protocols that honor his life and contributions.

Dr. Tudravu devoted over three decades to enhancing Fiji’s health sector. He began his career as an Orthopaedic Surgeon after his specialist training at Newcastle Hospital in Australia. He went on to hold several senior leadership positions, including Medical Superintendent at Lautoka Hospital and the Colonial War Memorial Hospital, Chief Medical Advisor, and eventually Acting Permanent Secretary for Health and Medical Services.

In February 2024, he was appointed as Permanent Secretary, a role in which he earned immense respect for his humility, integrity, commitment, and compassion towards both patients and staff.

“We extend our heartfelt condolences to his family, friends, colleagues, and everyone who had the privilege of working alongside him. We honor his life, his outstanding service, and the legacy he leaves behind,” stated Dr. Luisa Cikamatana, Acting Permanent Secretary.

Dr. Tudravu’s extensive contributions to the health sector will undoubtedly be remembered, as he has greatly influenced the lives of many in Fiji. His legacy is one of dedication to service and compassion, which continues to inspire those who work within the health community.
