Thirty-two recruits of the Republic of Fiji Military Forces (RFMF) were regretfully sent home this week due to an administrative oversight. The training facility for the Basic Recruit Training Course had announced 183 successful candidates, despite its actual capacity being only 151 recruits. This oversight resulted in the unfortunate situation where these individuals, many having traveled from remote and outer islands, were turned away upon their arrival at the training camp in Nasinu.
In an official statement, the RFMF expressed deep regret over the confusion and disappointment caused to both the candidates and their families. The military attributed the error to an administrative lapse during the selection process, compounded by existing training pressures that prevented the accommodation of all newly successful applicants.
To rectify this situation, the RFMF has committed to prioritizing the 32 affected candidates for the next Basic Recruit Training Course, scheduled for August 2025. They will not be required to reapply, and their medical clearances from this most recent selection will continue to be valid. Furthermore, RFMF extended this priority offer to any other eligible candidates who may have been mistakenly left off the original list.
The military organization encouraged all affected individuals to maintain their physical fitness and refrain from the use of illegal substances, as these remain essential criteria for enlistment.
This incident serves to highlight the RFMF’s commitment to supporting aspiring recruits and demonstrates a willingness to address oversights in their recruitment process. By ensuring these individuals have the opportunity to fulfill their ambitions in military service, the RFMF is taking steps forward in fostering a supportive and fair recruitment environment. As they prepare for future intakes, this proactive approach reflects hope for strengthening Fiji’s military capabilities and the development of a dedicated workforce ready to serve the nation.
