The Fiji men’s national rugby sevens team has made a strong start in the HSBC Sevens Series by securing the top position in the standings. Under the guidance of coach Osea Kolinisau, the team triumphed in the Dubai Sevens tournament, defeating Spain 19-5 in the final. This victory marks a significant moment for Fiji, as they now sit atop the standings with 20 points, a notable first in two years, breaking a 22-tournament winless streak.

Spain is closely trailing in second place, just two points behind Fiji. The top five teams in the standings also include Argentina, New Zealand, and France, while the USA currently occupies the last position.

On the women’s side, the Fijiana team is in 12th place with only one point, having finished 10th in Dubai. Australia leads the women’s standings, followed by New Zealand and France.

The excitement continues as the teams prepare for the upcoming Cape Town Sevens tournament this weekend, presenting further opportunities for both men’s and women’s teams to improve their standings and showcase their talents on the international stage.

This resurgence in performance, particularly for Fiji’s men’s team, is a hopeful sign for fans and supporters as they look forward to more thrilling matches ahead.
