For nearly three decades, Vinia Tabucegu has relied on her market vending business to provide for her family. A resident of Saioko, Nakorotubu in Ra, she sells pineapples, root crops, and fresh vegetables, generating a steady daily income.

Currently living on Khalsa Road with her family, Ms. Tabucegu describes market vending not just as a source of income but as a lifeline that has supported her household through both challenging and prosperous times. She notes that her business thrives, especially during the festive season, when the demand for fresh produce surges.

Beyond financial support, Ms. Tabucegu values the relationships she builds through her work, as she enjoys meeting a diverse array of customers. “I wish everyone the very best as we move into the beginning of the new year and hope that we all have a blessed year ahead,” she expressed with optimism.

During school holidays, her niece, Maria Rufina, assists her at the market stall. Maria, a Year 11 student at Nakorotubu Secondary School, has come to Suva from Ra to help earn some money for her school supplies and personal spending before the new term starts. “Working at the market has taught me the value of hard work and perseverance,” she shared, encouraging her peers to embrace life’s challenges with positivity. “Nothing is hard in life, and I wish all my peers and everyone a blessed new year ahead.”

This story highlights the spirit of resilience and community that defines the lives of those like Ms. Tabucegu and her niece, reminding us of the importance of hard work and connections in achieving familial and personal goals.
