A 24-year-old man has been remanded in custody after being accused of stealing a firearm from the Republic of Fiji Military Forces. The court is scheduled to consider his bail application today.

Sitiveni Tavakece appeared in Nadi Magistrate’s Court, where he faced two theft charges and one count of unlawful possession of a firearm. Reports indicate that on September 25, he allegedly stole a 9mm pistol valued at $1,500. Additionally, he is accused of taking three souvenir medals from the military forces.

It is anticipated that the state will file a third charge against him today. The case has been adjourned until 9:30 am for further mention, and bail has been denied.
