A 24-year-old man from Valelevu has faced charges of obtaining financial advantage by deception, as police report. The self-employed individual allegedly defrauded victims out of a total of $689 between August 16 and 24 of last year.

According to law enforcement, the accused used a fake social media account to market two video gaming sets, deceiving individuals into sending him money via mobile transfers. After the transactions, the victims attempted to communicate with him but received no response, nor did they receive the promised gaming sets.

The incidents were reported to the Totogo Police station, leading to the apprehension of the suspect. He is scheduled to appear in the Suva Magistrates Court this afternoon at 2:30 PM. This case serves as a reminder of the importance of verifying online sellers and conducting transactions with caution to prevent fraud.
