Motorists interested in the Land Transport Authority of Fiji’s newly launched Payment Plan must first resolve any recent Traffic Infringement Notices (TINs) to qualify for the program. This initiative, which commenced on January 23, 2026, aims to assist individuals in settling long-overdue fines, particularly those incurred between 2017 and 2022.
LTA Chief Executive Officer Irimaia Rokosawa emphasized that paying off more recent infringements is a prerequisite for entering the Payment Plan. “To qualify for the payment plan, customers must first clear all outstanding TINs issued from January 1, 2023, to date,” Mr. Rokosawa stated. Only after this obligation is fulfilled can customers engage in a structured repayment agreement for older penalties.
The Payment Plan is designed not only to provide relief to motorists grappling with accumulated fines but also to encourage adherence to traffic regulations. Mr. Rokosawa elaborated, “The payment plan strictly applies only to the list of approved TINs covered under the signed agreement. Any infringement notice issued outside of that list must be cleared separately, regardless of when it was issued.”
He also cautioned that non-compliance with scheduled repayments would result in cancellation of the agreement. “Customers must understand that defaulting on the agreed payments will automatically void the arrangement,” he remarked.
Each payment plan will be defined by a formal agreement, detailing specific fines, repayment amounts, and timelines, thereby ensuring transparency and fairness for both the Authority and consumers. From an operational viewpoint, Mr. Rokosawa explained that this policy will help mitigate unrecovered penalties, lessen administrative backlogs, and bolster enforcement efficiency.
Importantly, the funds collected through this initiative will be reinvested into road safety programs, enforcement operations, and transportation infrastructure projects, ultimately benefiting the wider community. This structured approach not only provides motorists a pathway to manage their financial obligations but also fosters a safer driving environment for everyone.
