The Land Transport Authority (LTA) of Fiji has introduced a new Payment Plan initiative beginning from the 23rd of this month, aiming to assist customers in settling their long-unpaid traffic infringement fines. This initiative is a significant step in addressing the considerable backlog of unpaid fines, particularly those issued between 2017 and 2022.

LTA Chief Executive Officer Irimaia Rokosawa explained that the initiative provides eligible motorists with a manageable repayment arrangement, easing financial burdens for those struggling to pay their accumulated penalties. He encouraged interested individuals to visit their nearest LTA office or contact the Authority via email for more details.

Over the years, the LTA has reported a growing number of unpaid Traffic Infringement Notices (TINs), leading to administrative challenges and limiting the Authority’s enforcement capabilities. The Payment Plan Policy is designed to offer a fair solution, allowing customers to regularize their accounts without the stress of settling the entire sum upfront.

To enroll in the payment plan, customers must first settle any outstanding fines issued from January 1, 2023, onward. It’s important to note that the plan only applies to specific TINs included in the agreement, and any fines not listed must be addressed separately.

Rokosawa emphasized that failing to adhere to scheduled payments could result in the cancellation of the agreement, underscoring the importance of commitment from customers. This policy aims to enhance the Authority’s enforcement efficiency while generating revenue that supports vital road safety programs and transport-related services for the community.

Moreover, the initiative is expected to streamline administrative processes, enabling the LTA to allocate resources more effectively and improve overall service delivery. Rokosawa urged eligible customers to actively engage with the Authority to navigate the application process and uphold their repayment commitments. Through this initiative, the LTA seeks not only to recover overdue fines but also to promote compliance and improve road safety for all.
