Fiji One News reached out to the Minister for Lands and Mineral Resources, Filimoni Vosarogo, regarding the ongoing issues surrounding the Mataqali Nabukebuke land. The Minister shed light on the complexities involved in issuing a prospectus license, emphasizing the necessity of a Compensation Agreement between the company and the landowning unit.

Minister Vosarogo pointed out that without this crucial agreement, the process of approving the license would face significant hurdles. He acknowledged that certain issues remain unresolved before the agreement can be finalized. “My staff from the Ministry of Lands and Mineral Resources have obtained the list from the land-owning unit, and tomorrow I will meet with the lawyers of NJV to find a common ground for both parties,” he stated.

He also recognized the emotionally charged nature of the discussions around this matter and reiterated the government’s commitment to handle it with sensitivity. “From yesterday’s footage, it’s clear that the atmosphere was highly emotional. As a responsible government, we must navigate this situation with care,” Vosarogo added.

The government’s careful consideration of the feelings and rights of the community involved reflects a commitment to finding a resolution that respects both the landowners and the needs of development.
