Dorsami Naidu, a respected lawyer and community leader from Nadi, has officially joined the Unity Fiji political party, choosing collaboration over his initial ambition to establish a separate political movement. This decision stems from Mr. Naidu’s conviction that Fiji’s future lies in unity rather than division.
Reflecting on his choice, Mr. Naidu stated, “Creating another political party would only serve to further splinter the voices and efforts of our people.” His overarching ambition is to foster a sense of togetherness among citizens, encouraging collective work toward national improvement. By aligning with Unity Fiji, he believes he can significantly contribute to a party whose mission aligns closely with this vision of unity.
As a lifelong legal practitioner, Mr. Naidu emphasizes his dedication to law and order, affirming the necessity for any reforms to be enacted through transparent, democratic processes. He insists these reforms should reflect the will of all citizens, cautioning against the influence of a vocal minority. Mr. Naidu also underscores the importance of maintaining a clear separation between religion and politics.
He has voiced concern over the increasing issue of methamphetamine in the country, linking it to higher rates of HIV, and advocates for a comprehensive national response to tackle these challenges effectively. On economic concerns, he highlighted the urgent need for initiatives focused on sustainable job creation and competitive wages to combat the ongoing brain drain affecting the nation. He pointed out that Fiji possesses immense potential in sectors such as agriculture, marine, and forestry, where citizens can be trained to thrive.
Additionally, Mr. Naidu called for crucial reforms in the healthcare system, stressing that no Fijian should be compelled to fundraise publicly for necessary overseas medical treatments. He reiterated Unity Fiji’s commitment to eliminating corruption and nepotism within governmental structures while addressing the challenges faced by the youth and their diminishing confidence in the future.
By joining Unity Fiji, Mr. Naidu is optimistic that he has found the right platform to confront these substantial national issues with determination and a united front, all under a shared vision for a better Fiji.
