The Fiji Revenue and Customs Service (FRCS) has officially launched its Tax Amnesty Program for 2025, which will commence on the 1st of January and run until the end of July. This initiative is designed to provide both individuals and businesses a unique opportunity to address overdue tax returns and rectify any past income declarations. Taxpayers will have the chance to amend incorrect or incomplete returns, and they can also benefit from a waiver on most administrative penalties associated with outstanding taxes.

The FRCS emphasizes that this amnesty program aims to reinforce Fiji’s tax system and contribute to the overall economic growth of the country. A successful implementation of the program is expected to significantly boost tax compliance, thereby fostering a healthier fiscal environment. However, the FRCS clarifies that penalties resulting from ongoing investigations or audits will not be included under this amnesty.

Encouragement is extended to all eligible taxpayers to seize this opportunity to normalize their tax situations without facing penalties. Such initiatives not only play a crucial role in enhancing tax compliance but also reflect Fiji’s commitment to economic improvement.

This announcement ties in with the newly established Tax Compliance Taskforce introduced by the FRCS, which focuses on curbing tax evasion and promoting compliance. Chaired by Nitin Gandhi, a prominent Chartered Accountant, the Taskforce’s role is to enhance the effectiveness of tax governance in Fiji. By coordinating efforts across various governmental and business sectors, Fiji aims to bolster its economic foundations and encourage a fair tax system that serves all citizens.

With these two initiatives—the Tax Amnesty Program and the Tax Compliance Taskforce—Fiji is taking significant steps towards a more transparent and accountable tax system, fostering hope for a stronger economic future.
