The Ministry of Health’s Echo Surgical Team, in collaboration with Sai Prema and Heart Heroes Fiji, successfully completed a three-day heart echo screening outreach last week at health facilities in Daviqele, Kavala, and Vunisea. This important initiative aims to combat cardiovascular diseases, which are the leading cause of death in Fiji and have a profound impact on families by claiming lives prematurely.

Cardiovascular diseases, along with other non-communicable diseases such as heart disease and stroke, are often driven by controllable lifestyle factors. These include unhealthy eating habits, lack of physical activity, tobacco use, and excessive alcohol consumption. The outreach program emphasizes the importance of early detection and recognizing the warning signs of these conditions. By doing so, the medical team can act swiftly and potentially save lives.

Efforts like this screening outreach not only raise awareness about the risks associated with cardiovascular diseases but also empower communities to take preventive measures. The collaboration between health organizations demonstrates a commitment to improving public health and ensuring that Fijians have access to necessary healthcare services. This proactive approach to health care could lead to a significant reduction in the prevalence of cardiovascular conditions and improve the overall well-being of the population.
