The Fiji Kulas have gathered at the Fiji FA Academy in Ba to begin preparations for their upcoming friendly match against the Nga Whanapoikiri Māori o Aotearoa Senior Women’s Team, scheduled for Thursday. Head coach Angeline Chua has selected a promising squad that features players from different regions of Fiji, as well as New Zealand-based Ka’iulani Scott.
This week-long camp serves a dual purpose: not only is it aimed at the friendly match, but it also marks the start of Fiji’s campaign for the OFC Women’s Nations Cup and the FIFA Women’s World Cup 2027 Oceania Qualifiers. Coach Chua highlighted the significance of international matches, noting that they provide valuable exposure as the team gears up for major competitions.
“This match is a chance for our players to face a strong opponent and evaluate various combinations and strategies for the future,” Chua stated. She expressed her goal of refining their tactical play and enhancing team cohesion by blending experienced players with rising talents.
Chua also encouraged fans to attend the match, informing them that entry is free. Following their clash with the Kulas, the visiting team is set to play a second friendly against the Ba Women’s side on Saturday, with both matches kicking off at 4 PM.
The upcoming games are positioned as crucial stepping stones for Fiji’s women’s football team, paving the way toward bigger international challenges. The community’s support at these matches may prove instrumental in boosting player morale and fostering a sense of unity around women’s sports in the region.
