Fijians will soon have the chance to voice their opinions on proposed changes to electricity tariffs as the public consultation period officially commences tomorrow. This 21-day initiative, organized by the Fijian Competition and Consumer Commission (FCCC), aims to engage residents in discussions regarding potential increases in rates set by Energy Fiji Limited.

The FCCC emphasizes the importance of participation, highlighting that adjustments in electricity prices can significantly influence households, businesses, and wider communities. To facilitate this engagement, the FCCC will conduct in-person public consultation sessions where attendees can pose questions, express concerns, and gain a clearer understanding of how the proposed tariff structure might alter their power expenses.

For individuals who cannot attend the face-to-face meetings, alternative avenues for participation are available. The public is encouraged to submit their feedback in writing or through an online survey accessible on the FCCC’s website during the consultation period. Additionally, to assist citizens in making informed decisions, the FCCC has published a non-confidential version of Energy Fiji Limited’s tariff submission on its site. Alongside this, an Electricity Bill Comparison Calculator has been made available to help consumers estimate the potential impacts of the proposed changes on their monthly electricity bills.

The Commission is urging a wide array of stakeholders to engage in the consultation, including domestic consumers, advocacy groups, businesses, and youth representatives. Public input is deemed essential for ensuring that any modifications to electricity tariffs are equitable, transparent, and take into account the tangible effects these changes will have on the Fijian populace.

Details regarding the consultation dates, specific locations, and submission guidelines can also be found on the FCCC website. The first consultation will be held at a venue near the Civic Centre in Labasa town from 10 AM to 3 PM tomorrow, marking an important opportunity for Fijians to influence energy pricing policies that affect their everyday lives.
