The Fiji Meteorological Service has elevated its flood alert to a flood warning, indicating heightened concerns for several regions. The areas affected include Nadi, Lautoka, Ba, Tavua, Rakiraki, the interior of Ra, and Tailevu North.
Recent radar and gauge data reveal that rainfall over the past 12 hours has reached between 30mm to 60mm. Moving forward, the Fiji Met is predicting additional rainfall ranging from 70mm to 100mm in the western half and the interior of Viti Levu within the next 24 hours.
This cautionary measure aims to ensure the safety of residents and prepare them for potential flooding. As communities come together to stay informed and vigilant, it highlights the importance of readiness in the face of natural events.
In times like these, the swift action of meteorological services and the cooperation of the local population can make a significant difference in minimizing the impact of adverse weather conditions.
