The Prime Minister of Fiji, Sitiveni Rabuka, honored Mr. Manohar Narindas Melwani, a distinguished Hong Kong businessman and tailor, with the Member of the Order of Fiji (Honorary) medal during a ceremony in Suva. This accolade recognizes Mr. Melwani’s longstanding service to Fiji and its leaders over several decades.

The medal was presented on behalf of President Ratu Naiqama Lalabalavu, highlighting Mr. Melwani’s valuable contributions to both the nation and humanity. Mr. Melwani, a master tailor, is well-known for dressing many of Fiji’s national leaders since the country’s independence, including notable figures such as former Governors-General Ratu Sir George Cakobau and Ratu Sir Penaia Ganilau.

Prime Minister Rabuka referred to Mr. Melwani as “a true friend of Fiji,” acknowledging his skill and dedication throughout the years. He remarked, “This medal symbolizes the deep respect Fiji has for those who have made meaningful contributions to our nation’s story.”

An emotional Mr. Melwani expressed his gratitude for the honor, referring to the occasion as “historic and cherished” for him and his family, and the event was made more special with the attendance of Fiji’s Ambassador to China, H.E. Robert Lee, and family members.

This ceremony aligns with the broader trend of recognizing individuals who have made significant contributions to Fiji, as seen in other recent award presentations by the President of Fiji that have celebrated various individuals for their exemplary service in different capacities. These awards aim to foster a culture of appreciation and encourage recipients to inspire positive change within their communities.

Such recognitions not only honor individual achievements but also serve as a reminder of the importance of community and service in contributing to the nation’s progress and unity.
