Attention all you rain dance enthusiasts: it’s time to break out your umbrellas because a Heavy Rain Alert is now in effect for the Northern Division, Eastern Viti Levu, Yasawa, Lau, and the Lomaiviti group—and it has now decided to join the party across all of Fiji!
What’s causing this watery soirée, you ask? A stubborn trough of low pressure has decided to settle over our lovely islands; it’s like that friend who overstays their welcome. Expect an entourage of clouds and rain as they roll in.
The forecast up until midnight tomorrow for the Fiji group promises us some occasional rain, with certain areas experiencing downpours and even a few thunderstorms to add a little drama to the mix—particularly over the Northern Division, Western and Northern Viti Levu (that’s Momi, Nadi, Ba, and Ra), Yasawa, and Mamanuca group. Elsewhere, the rain will occasionally sprinkle down, possibly with a side of isolated thunderstorms and surprise heavy falls—what a thrill!
If you’re in low-lying areas, be ready for a potential flash flood, as Mother Nature seems to have a little too much enthusiasm for her waterworks today. Expect moderate east to northerly winds—perfect for those who like their breezes fresh and lively. The seas will be moderate to rough, making it a great day for the daring sailors out there.
Looking ahead to Saturday, the forecast remains classic Fiji: occasional rain and a dash of thunderstorms will likely entertain us. Another reminder for those in low-lying areas: watch out for moods swings of precipitation that could lead to flash flooding. Winds will continue to flutter, and seas will remain in a robust state.
Now, let’s check in on specific locations:
