Deputy Speaker and Assistant Minister for Foreign Affairs, Lenora Qereqeretabua, is set to represent Fiji at the upcoming 28th Conference of Speakers and Presiding Officers of the Commonwealth (CSPOC) in New Delhi, scheduled for January 15–17, 2026. Qereqeretabua will take the place of Speaker Filimone Jitoko, who is unable to attend due to prior obligations following an invitation from the Speaker of India’s Lok Sabha, Shri Om Birla.
Joining Qereqeretabua at the conference will be Deputy Secretary-General Abele Sakulu and Manager Tables Saleshni Prasad. The CSPOC serves as a vital forum for parliamentary leaders from various Commonwealth nations, aimed at bolstering democratic governance, fostering cooperation, and reinforcing bilateral ties, particularly enhancing the existing relationship between Fiji and India.
Fiji’s involvement highlights the nation’s dedication to engaging with Commonwealth initiatives and collaborative parliamentary efforts. The Fijian Parliament also expresses gratitude to the Government of India for their financial support in facilitating the delegation’s travel.
The forthcoming conference will tackle crucial themes such as fairness and impartiality in parliamentary leadership, the exchange of knowledge regarding democratic practices, and the enhancement of institutional frameworks among member countries. This engagement reflects an ongoing commitment to democracy and cooperative governance, promising positive prospects for Fiji within the Commonwealth community.
