People First has officially become Fiji’s newest political party following the approval of its application by the Registrar of Political Parties. Ana Mataiciwa, the Registrar, confirmed that the party’s application, submitted on November 20, 2025, complied with all legal requirements.

During the public objection period, four objections were raised against the application, focusing on the party’s name, symbol, and specific provisions within its constitution. However, after a thorough review, all objections were dismissed by Mataiciwa. She also noted that the objectors retain the right to appeal the decision. According to the law, they have a 14-day period from the date of the ruling to challenge it with the Electoral Commission if they choose.

The registration of People First now increases the number of recognized political parties in Fiji to eight, all formally acknowledged by the Fijian Elections Office (FEO). Notably, the People First party has been established by former members of the de-registered Fiji First party.

This development reflects Fiji’s dynamic political landscape, welcoming new voices that could shape the future of governance in the country. With the formation of People First, there is potential for fresh perspectives to emerge in Fijian politics.
