A successful dialogue forum titled “Development in Indonesia: Lessons Learned from Papua and for the Pacific” was held in Suva, Fiji, focusing on development achievements in Papua, an Indonesian province known for its rich culture and progressive advancements.
The event featured a range of prominent speakers from Papua who provided insights into the region’s social and economic progress, fostering a deep understanding of the unique initiatives undertaken there. A diverse audience attended the forum, which included church leaders, community group representatives, Indonesian Scholarship Fiji Alumni, Fijian students, government officials, local NGOs, Indonesian students in Fiji, and members of the Fiji Indonesia Friendship Association.
Indonesian Ambassador to Fiji, Dupito Simamora, emphasized the importance of interactive discussions aimed at generating fresh perspectives on sustainable development models that could benefit both Papua and Fiji. Sokovoli Ordovakavula, President of the Indonesia Scholarship Fiji Alumni, highlighted the unique initiatives in Papua’s development plans and suggested that some of these could inform Fijian government efforts to enhance social and economic growth.
Additionally, Serupepeli Udre, Acting Director for Assets and Infrastructure Services at the Ministry of Education, spoke about the bilateral collaborations between Indonesia and Fiji as a foundation for future projects that could support Fiji’s national development goals.
This forum not only demonstrated the spirit of collaboration between Indonesia and Fiji but also offered an opportunity to exchange ideas for sustainable development, indicating a hopeful path forward for both regions. By learning from one another, both Papua and Fiji can work towards a brighter, more interconnected future.
