The Fiji Football Association has reported promising results from drug testing during the 2025 BiC Fiji FACT tournament, with no players testing positive on the third day of the event. Chief Executive Mohammed Yusuf noted that only three players have tested positive so far—one on the first day and two on the second—from a total pool of 72 players tested over three days.
Yusuf praised the efforts of the eight participating districts for implementing strict measures to combat drug use, resulting in significantly improved statistics compared to last year’s Inter-District Championship, where 21 players tested positive out of 180 players selected. He expressed appreciation for the education initiatives around drug use that appear to be taking effect.
Yusuf highlighted that testing is set to continue during the weekend’s semi-finals and finals at the HFC Bank Stadium in Suva. The first semi-final will feature Pacific Seafood Supplies Lautoka FC facing Extra Supermarket Labasa FC, while the second semi-final will see Ajay Trading Rewa FC take on hosts, Stratum Construction Suva FC.
This positive trend in drug testing reflects a collective commitment to ensuring a safe and fair sporting environment in Fiji, reinforcing the importance of education and awareness in professional sports. As the tournament progresses, there is hope that the momentum will lead to further reductions in substance use among players, fostering a healthier competitive spirit in Fijian football.
