Former All Blacks 7s and Hurricanes winger, Salesi Rayasi has been named in the extended squad of the Fiji Water Flying Fijians for the upcoming July Tests against Australia and Scotland. Head coach Mick Byrne has also included notable players such as former Fiji 7s representative Taniela Sadrugu, Hawkes Bay scrum half Sam Wye, and rookie Drua utility Isikeli Rabitu, who is one of 23 Drua players selected.

The squad boasts a rich lineup featuring loose forward Peceli Yato, Setareki Tuicuvu, Kalaveti Ravouvou, Semi Radradra, Sam Matavesi, Albert Tuisue, Temo Mayanavanua, Josua Tuisova, Sireli Maqala, and Jiuta Wainiqolo among others. This selection comes after thorough discussions by the coaching staff, reflecting the competitive nature of talent present both locally and globally, which made the selection process challenging. Unfortunately, some high-performing players were left out of the squad.

The Flying Fijians are slated to battle the Wallabies on July 6 at the McDonald Jones Stadium in Newcastle before taking on Scotland a week later at HFC Stadium in Suva. The final squad will be confirmed in the coming weeks as preparations ramp up for these significant matchups.

With Rayasi’s recent performance at the club level, including a two-year contract with French club RC Vannes, there is optimism surrounding his ability to contribute significantly to the Flying Fijians. His inclusion alongside a strong contingent from the Fijian Drua indicates a depth of talent that could serve Fiji well in the international arena. This combination of experienced and new players may enhance the team’s competitiveness and provide fans with exciting matchups to look forward to in July.
