Fiji Water Flying Fijians head coach Mick Byrne is looking forward to ending the year on a high note as the team prepares to face Scotland, Spain, and Ireland in a series of Test matches next month.
Byrne’s goal for the November tour is to deliver impressive performances against these strong Tier 1 teams, particularly as they play on the opponents’ home grounds. He expressed excitement about the upcoming matches, noting that they will provide a unique opportunity for some of the newer players on the team.
“It’s an exciting time; we had a good year and finished the Pacific Nations Cup on a high. The players had a good rest, and our Northern Hemisphere players are performing well, which is great to see,” Byrne said.
He acknowledged that while the crowds may not be hostile, the enthusiastic support for each team creates an engaging atmosphere. Byrne feels optimistic about the momentum leading into the November Tests and emphasizes the importance of unity among the players.
“It’s an exciting time as we come together. We have four exciting games lined up against Tier 1 nations. This positions us well for preparing for the World Cup in 2027, but importantly, it’s about coming together to finish the year strongly as a group of players.”
The Flying Fijians will kick off their tour against Scotland on Sunday at 5:40 am at Murrayfield, followed by a match against Wales on November 11 at 1:40 am at the Millennium Stadium. They will then face Spain on November 17 at 2 am at the José Zorrilla Stadium and conclude with a match against Ireland on November 24 at 3:10 am at Aviva Stadium.
