The National Fire Authority (NFA) is taking significant strides to enhance its emergency services by constructing new fire stations and substations in critical areas. This initiative specifically aims at high-population zones and regions that have historically been underserved, with the goal of reducing emergency response times and boosting the efficiency of first responders.
Sen Jeet, NFA Manager of Finance, reported that the Natadola fire station, which serves as a vital link between Sigatoka and Nadi, is already operational. Plans are underway for additional substations in locations like Pacific Harbour, which will facilitate faster access for emergency personnel. Jeet emphasized that the establishment of these facilities will ensure better coordination in backup support to cover larger areas effectively.
In ongoing efforts to enhance its services, the NFA is acquiring land in locations such as Kayasi, Navakai, and Taveuni. The strategic placement of these resources is designed to address areas experiencing congestion and high population growth. Jeet expressed the objective of achieving a response time of five to fifteen minutes for emergencies, underscoring the NFA’s commitment to improving community safety.
This expansion is part of a comprehensive strategy by the NFA to ensure that emergency services can promptly address incidents, thereby enhancing safety and service delivery for rapidly growing communities and filling gaps in coverage. The authority’s proactive approach demonstrates a dedication to adapting to the needs of the population and ensuring preparedness in times of crisis.
