A surge of pride enveloped Ratu Kadavulevu School (RKS) as Samuela Navitalai achieved a remarkable victory at the 2025 Fiji Finals, marking a blue ribbon finish in the boys’ 100-meter event. Navitalai, who displayed exceptional performance throughout the heats, was able to maintain his speed and determination right into the final, securing his win amidst fierce competition.

Coach Sekove Vadei Jr., who is celebrating his first year back as a teacher at RKS after graduating from the school in 2004, expressed the significance behind the victory. The team had ramped up their preparations after the zone competitions, driven by their ambition to excel at the Fiji Finals. Vadei noted the many challenges they faced along the way, including sporadic sleepless nights and adjustments to the athletes’ diets to ensure peak performance.

“The support from our principal, alumni, and the school administration has kept us motivated and focused,” Vadei said, dedicating the victory to all those who believed in the students from the very start.

This year’s Fiji Finals were particularly noteworthy, as they commemorated the 50th anniversary of the national championships. Events like this not only highlight individual athletic prowess but also foster a sense of community spirit as schools rallied behind their competitors. The overwhelming support from fans and schools demonstrated a collective commitment to nurturing talent in youth sports throughout Fiji.

Navitalai’s win and the enthusiastic atmosphere during the Finals reflect the promising future of athletics in Fiji. Celebrated for dedication and teamwork, young athletes are not just achieving success on track but are also inspiring future generations to chase their athletic dreams.
