Motorists in Fiji can expect a decrease in fuel prices at the pump starting February, while liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) prices will see an increase, according to the latest adjustments sanctioned by the Fijian Competition and Consumer Commission (FCCC).

The price of motor spirit will be reduced from $2.61 per litre to $2.55 per litre, reflecting a drop of 6 cents, which amounts to a 2.30% decrease. Similarly, the price for premix fuel will also decrease by 6 cents, now priced at $2.39 per litre, representing a 2.45% reduction.

Of particular note is the significant cut in diesel prices, which will drop by 17 cents per litre, bringing the cost down from $2.35 to $2.18, an impressive decrease of 7.32%. Kerosene, which is exempt from VAT, will see a price reduction of 12 cents, resulting in a new price of $1.74 per litre, which is a 6.45% decrease.

Conversely, LPG prices are set to rise across the board. The cost of a 4.5kg LPG cylinder will increase from $13.33 to $13.56, marking a rise of 23 cents or 1.73%. The price of a 12kg cylinder will increase by 62 cents, from $35.55 to $36.17, representing a 1.74% increase.

Bulk LPG gas will see a modest increase of 5 cents, moving from $2.74 to $2.79 per kilogram. Autogas prices will rise by 4 cents per litre, from $1.88 to $1.92, which corresponds to a 2.13% uptick.

The FCCC has stated that these new prices will take effect from February 1, 2026. They attribute the changes to fluctuations in international petroleum prices, transportation costs, and variations in foreign exchange rates. Additionally, consumers have been reminded that kerosene and LPG cylinder prices will remain VAT-exempt, while bulk LPG prices are exclusive of wholesale VAT, and autogas prices include VAT.

This adjustment in fuel prices signals a positive shift for motorists, providing some financial relief at the pump despite the rising costs of LPG, ensuring a balanced response in a fluctuating market.
