Fiji Faces Water Supply Disruptions Amid Urgent Repairs

Spread the love

The Water Authority of Fiji is set to isolate its raw water pipeline leading to the Tamavua Water Treatment Plant in Savura in order to carry out urgent repairs on a damaged washout valve, which was impacted by flash flooding earlier today. A tree trunk, dislodged by floodwaters, struck the valve of the raw water main, resulting in the damage.

WAF Manager of Regional Operations, Samuela Rokovaleusa, emphasized that repairing the damaged valve is crucial for ensuring continuous water production and maintaining operational efficiency. He noted that significant amounts of water are currently being lost from the pipeline and not reaching the treatment facility.

The pipeline isolation will begin today and is expected to continue overnight. Rokovaleusa informed that local residents may experience water supply disruptions during this time and assured the public that his team will strive to minimize inconvenience while working to complete repairs swiftly. Water carting assistance will also be provided. Residents are advised to make necessary preparations for this temporary disruption.
