The Fiji Meteorological Service has issued a heavy rain warning for the Yasawa and Mamanuca groups, Viti Levu, Kadavu, and nearby smaller islands, following an upgrade from an earlier alert. The weather office reports that an active trough of low pressure is currently affecting these areas, leading to expectations of sustained periods of rain, heavy at times, along with a few thunderstorms.
For the remainder of Fiji, a heavy rain alert remains in place, indicating widespread rainfall throughout the country over the next few days. Meteorologists have noted that while this weather system poses potential challenges, it plays a crucial role in replenishing water supplies and supporting local ecosystems.
Additionally, the system referred to as TD11F is anticipated to be named as a tropical cyclone later today; however, it is projected not to have a direct impact on Fiji.
Residents are urged to stay informed about weather updates and take necessary precautions, especially in light of the potential for flash flooding and deteriorating road conditions. This situation serves as a reminder of the importance of community preparedness and cooperation during adverse weather events, emphasizing the significance of staying vigilant and supported as they face this heavy rain.
