Severe flooding caused by heavy rainfall has led to the closure of several rural roads in Fiji’s Western Division, prompting the Fiji Roads Authority (FRA) to issue an urgent advisory. Motorists are being urged to exercise extreme caution and refrain from attempting to cross flooded areas to ensure their safety.
In Sigatoka, multiple crossings are currently underwater, including Kabisi Crossing, Ulusila Crossing, Nacocolevu Crossing, and the Vatukadiri Crossing on Lomawai Road. Nadi is also affected, with the Mate Road Crossing being submerged. In Lautoka, drivers face challenges at several points, such as the Drasa Dam Road and various crossings along Vakabuli Paipai, Saru Back Road, Buabua Road, Vuda Back Road, and Navula Road.
In Ba, Marinitawa Road and Toge Road Crossing have been impacted, while Tavua has experienced widespread surface flooding. The Kings Road at Yaladro Junction remains accessible only to 4×4 vehicles and heavy vehicles, with additional road closures on Mataniwai, Rukuruku, Nabuna, Yaladro, and Qalela Roads.
The FRA is actively monitoring the situation and will provide updates as conditions change. Drivers are reminded of the importance of adhering to road closures, as flooded roads can pose significant hazards. Seeking alternative routes and avoiding unnecessary travel is strongly recommended.
This situation underscores the importance of being prepared and aware of local conditions, especially during extreme weather events. As the community works together to navigate these challenges, local authorities remain vigilant, prioritizing safety for all residents and motorists.
