Ravneel Pratap, former head coach of Labasa FC, has been appointed as the inaugural Head Coach of the newly created Fiji FA Elite Academy in Labasa. This initiative aims to cultivate young football talents and elevate the level of the sport in Fiji.
Pratap, who holds an OFC B-License, has a proven track record with the Babasiga Lions, highlighted by their remarkable triumph in the Inter District Championship in Lautoka last year. His background in education as a teacher at Labasa Sangam College, paired with his football expertise, positions him well to lead the academy.
Mohammed Yusuf, the Chief Executive of Fiji FA, expressed his confidence in Pratap’s capabilities to nurture young athletes, stating that his qualifications and leadership qualities will play a crucial role in the development of Fiji’s national team, known as the Bula Boys. Pratap shared his enthusiasm for this position, stating, “I’m honoured to be given this opportunity by Fiji FA. Developing young players and preparing them for their football career and national representation is a responsibility I take seriously.”
The Fiji FA Elite Academy, which was established last month with the oversight of Sunil Kumar, Head of Talent Development, is aimed at providing structured training and education for 16 aspiring players aged 14 to 16. This academy reflects Fiji FA’s dedication to fostering local football talent, ensuring that the next generation has access to high-quality coaching and development programs.
The launch of this academy is a beacon of hope for the future of Fijian football. It represents a vital step toward building a strong foundation for the sport, allowing young athletes to improve their skills and potentially advance to represent Fiji on larger stages. This initiative embodies the ongoing commitment of Fiji FA to invest in the future of football within the nation.
