Fiji FA Champions Clean Sport Ahead of 2025 FACT Tournament

Fiji Football Association vice-president Yogeshwar Singh has reiterated the organization’s firm stance on maintaining a drug-free environment as the 2025 Fiji FACT tournament approaches, scheduled to begin on May 30. Singh emphasized that drug testing will be a key component of the tournament, reflecting the association’s continued commitment to clean sport.

He called upon all participating teams to take the issue seriously, advising them to undergo drug tests before the competition. “This is a continued effort to keep the sport drug-free,” Singh stated. “We are striving for a drug-free tournament, so please make sure you have your drug tests done prior to participation.”

This initiative aligns with similar efforts seen in past tournaments, highlighting the Fiji FA’s dedication to prioritizing player health and sporting integrity. Recent reports from the Fiji Football Association indicated a concerning trend; during the FMF Inter District Championship, 21 players tested positive for substance abuse—a significant increase from previous events. As a response, the Fiji FA plans to implement educational programs focusing on the dangers of drug use.

Furthermore, the movement to maintain a drug-free sporting culture has gained traction, not only within football but across various sports in Fiji. The Shree Sanatan Dharm Pratinidhi Sabha earlier reaffirmed its commitment to upholding drug testing protocols, highlighting a collaborative effort across all sporting bodies to combat this prevalent issue.

Encouragingly, these initiatives reflect a growing awareness among organizations of the impact of drug use on athletes and their communities. There is a strong prospect for a cleaner sporting environment, fostering values of health, responsibility, and fair play for future generations of athletes in Fiji.

With the Fiji FACT tournament around the corner, the message is clear: the commitment to clean sport is a shared responsibility that all athletes, stakeholders, and the community are encouraged to support.
