The Fiji national men’s football team is preparing for an international friendly match against Bangladesh, which is scheduled to take place in Fiji during the June FIFA international window. Fiji Football Association President Rajesh Patel has indicated that discussions are also in progress to establish a Tri-Nations tournament, with interest shown by Chinese Taipei and a request from Hong Kong to play against Fiji.

Patel noted that the Fiji FA is diligently working on finalizing the teams participating in the Tri-Nations tournament, aiming to provide the national squad with maximum exposure during the June window. He expressed enthusiasm about potentially bringing another country into the mix for the tournament, emphasizing the importance of these matches for player development.

In addition to this friendly match, Patel confirmed that Fiji will host the Prime Minister’s Melanesian Spearhead Group Cup in late September, also coinciding with a FIFA international window. This tournament may allow the Bula Boys to compete in two international matches, with further details to be shared as the event approaches.

Patel highlighted that hosting international fixtures is crucial for fostering player development and improving the overall standard of football in Fiji. This proactive approach not only enriches the experience of the players but also enhances the visibility and competitiveness of Fijian football on the international stage.
