DIGICEL Fiji, in collaboration with the Fiji Revenue and Customs Service (FRCS), has announced the launch of MyCash QR payments at all FRCS branches and Container Freight Stations across the nation. This new feature, aimed at enhancing customer convenience, allows MyCash users to make payments swiftly and securely via QR codes.
Farid Mohammed, the CEO of Digicel Fiji, emphasized that this initiative marks a significant step forward in improving the payment experience for Fijians. He stated that it would streamline transactions, making them faster, more convenient, and safe, while contributing to greater digital financial inclusion in Fiji.
Udit Singh, the head of FRCS, noted that the introduction of MyCash QR payments broadens the payment options available to customers. This aligns with FRCS’s strategic goal of becoming a digitally focused organization, utilizing technology as a key driver for transformation.
The MyCash service, which is accessible through mobile devices, aims to simplify transactions such as tax and duty payments, ensuring that users can make payments seamlessly. To utilize the MyCash QR Pay, customers require a Digicel SIM card, showcasing the necessity of mobile connectivity in today’s financial ecosystem.
With the rollout, Digicel Fiji has already established over 2,500 QR Pay locations, including popular supermarkets, and maintains around 200 agents for easy deposits and withdrawals. This further solidifies its commitment to enabling financial transactions that are hassle-free and secure.
The introduction of MyCash QR payments is part of a larger trend toward digital solutions in finance within Fiji, where recent data indicated a significant increase in QR code transactions. From just 3.4 million in 2022, the number surged to 6.3 million in 2023, showcasing the growing acceptance of mobile payment systems and signaling a hopeful outlook for financial accessibility in the nation.
This advancement reflects not only a shift towards modern payment methods but also enhances the overall economic activity, encouraging a more interconnected and accessible financial environment for all Fijians. The integration of technology in payment solutions emphasizes a positive future where financial inclusion continues to progress, empowering individuals across the archipelago.
