The Miss Fiji Pageant has publicly rejected comments made by Acting Prime Minister Filimoni Vosarogo regarding Fiji’s representative for the Miss Pacific Islands pageant. The pageant committee has confirmed that, under the guidance of Minister for Local Government and Housing Maciu Nalumisa, Ailava Samuels has been selected to represent Fiji.
In their response, the committee highlighted that Vosarogo’s statement contradicts prior assurances from Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka and other line ministers, who had collectively approved the selection process laid out in a cabinet paper. The committee stressed that the government would not interfere with the decisions of independent pageant organizations, emphasizing that the selection and appointment protocols for representatives in regional and international competitions are strictly governed by established rules and affiliations.
Further affirming this decision, the Miss Fiji Pageant committee has received official recognition from the secretariat for Ailava Samuels as Fiji’s registered representative. They cautioned that any attempt to alter this decision would leave the country without a participant in the upcoming pageant.
Following Vosarogo’s remarks, Minister Maciu Nalumisa has reiterated his instruction for the committee to dismiss any contradictory statements and to stay focused on preparations for the competition. This demonstrates a united front in support of Fiji’s representation at the Miss Pacific Islands pageant, ensuring that the nation’s interests are upheld on this international stage.
