Fiji's Bold Move Against Marijuana: A Crackdown Unfolds!

Fiji Cracks Down on Drug Cultivation: Major Marijuana Seizures in Focus

Fiji’s police force has ramped up efforts to combat marijuana cultivation through Operation Sasamaki, resulting in a substantial haul of nearly three tonnes of marijuana plants seized in just the first half of this month. This initiative illustrates Fiji’s strong commitment to tackling drug-related issues within the region.

Police Commissioner Rusiate Tudravu reported that the market value of the confiscated drugs is estimated to be worth millions, highlighting the significance of these operations. The focus has primarily been on Kadavu, where law enforcement conducted raids on fifteen marijuana farms, leading to seven arrests, including that of a village chief, who remains in custody.

Commissioner Tudravu emphasized the necessity of disrupting the supply chain at its source, stating, “I instructed our team to proactively pursue the suppliers and cultivators rather than waiting for information.” His decisive stance signifies the urgency in addressing the escalating drug problems in the area.

In addition to the actions carried out in Kadavu, a broader initiative has led to thirty arrests related to drug activities throughout the month. This ongoing commitment to disrupt and dismantle drug networks aligns with the strategy articulated by Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Operations Livai Driu, who has spotlighted the vital role of community engagement and intelligence-sharing in these operations.

These advancements underline a unified determination to combat drug-related issues and ensure community safety. The proactive approaches aim not only to eradicate illegal drug cultivation but also to create a safer environment for all citizens. With continued collaboration between the police and the community, there is a hopeful outlook for a future with reduced drug-related crime.
