Acting Prime Minister and Minister for Local Government Filimoni Vosarogo has announced that Fiji’s Cabinet has determined that the winner of the Miss Fiji Pageant will have the opportunity to represent the nation at the upcoming Miss Pacific Islands Pageant. This decision reiterates the importance of adherence to government resolutions and the expectations that follow.
In a statement issued this afternoon, Vosarogo emphasized the necessity for the organizers of the Miss Fiji Pageant to honor the Cabinet’s directive. He stated, “It needs to be understood that when Cabinet makes a decision on a matter, the expectation that such decision will be respected must follow. All processes, logistics, terms and arrangements, contractual or otherwise, must align to the decision. This is not just any decision; it is the decision of the apex body of decision-making of the government. One cannot turn that decision any way one likes.”
Highlighting the significance of the event and the use of public funds, Vosarogo remarked on the critical nature of maintaining public confidence in the management of these events. He expressed excitement about Fiji’s role in hosting the Miss Pacific Islands Pageant in 2026, marking seven years since the last gathering of Pacific Queens in the country.
To support these events, the Government of Fiji has entered into a Service Agreement with the Miss Fiji Pageant and the Miss Pacific Islands Pageant, providing a funding amount of $198,000. This financial backing was approved by the Cabinet in October 2025, following a proposal from the Ministry of Local Government and Housing concerning the two pageants.
The Cabinet’s decision underscores the government’s commitment to fostering cultural events and promoting Fiji on a regional stage, while also ensuring that public funds are utilized responsibly and effectively.
