The Fijian Cabinet has mandated that the winner of the Miss Fiji Pageant will represent the nation at the upcoming Miss Pacific Islands Pageant, following a significant government funding commitment to both events. Acting Prime Minister Filimoni Vosarogo confirmed that the government has entered into a service agreement on December 3 of the previous year with the Miss Fiji Pageant and the Miss Pacific Islands Pageant, allocating a total of $198,000 in public funds for these occasions.

This funding support was approved by the Cabinet in October after a proposal from the Ministry of Housing and Local Government. As part of this decision, it was established that the winner of the Miss Fiji Pageant (MFP) would subsequently take part in the Miss Pacific Islands Pageant (MPIP).

“It’s essential to understand that when the Cabinet makes a decision, there is an expectation that it will be respected. All processes, logistics, terms, and arrangements must align with that decision,” stated Vosarogo, highlighting the importance of adhering to Cabinet resolutions, especially when taxpayer money is at stake.

With the Miss Fiji Pageant successfully concluded and the new Miss Fiji crowned, the event organizers are expected to honor the Cabinet’s directive. “This is not just any decision. It is the decision of the apex body of decision-making within the government. One cannot disregard that decision,” he asserted.

Vosarogo also underlined the significance of maintaining public trust, reiterating that taxpayer confidence is crucial given the government’s financial involvement in these events. Fiji is set to host the Miss Pacific Islands Pageant this year, marking a notable return after seven years since last welcoming contestants from across the Pacific. This event not only celebrates beauty and culture but also positions Fiji prominently on the regional stage once again, fostering unity and engagement among Pacific nations.
