Fiji’s long-awaited victory in the rugby sevens arena came to fruition at the Dubai tournament, marking an end to their 22-tournament drought. Under the guidance of coach Osea Kolinisau, the Fijian team secured a convincing 19-5 win against Spain in the final match held at the Sevens Stadium in the United Arab Emirates.

For Kolinisau, this victory was particularly meaningful as he also led Fiji to its last win in Dubai back in 2015. The final saw exciting moments, including an early try from veteran player Paul Pla, which set the stage for an intense match. However, Fijian player Filipe Sauturaga responded just before halftime, leveling the scores with a brilliantly executed try.

In the second half, Fiji showcased their determination as they dominated the field. Captain Jerry Matana and Ilikimi Torosi each added to the scoreboard with two more tries, ultimately clinching the victory and securing a much-desired podium finish.

This triumph not only brings joy to the Fiji team but also highlights their resilience and skill, promising a bright future for the squad in upcoming competitions. The success in Dubai serves as a powerful reminder of Fiji’s rugby prowess and a source of inspiration for fans and players alike.
