An active trough of low pressure is approaching Fiji from the west and is anticipated to impact the country starting Tuesday and continuing through the weekend. This weather system is expected to bring widespread cloud cover, rain, and thunderstorms across various regions.

The latest forecasts highlight the likelihood of heavy rain and isolated thunderstorms, particularly in the interior and northern parts of Viti Levu, which includes areas such as Naitasiri, Ra, Nausori, Tailevu, Ba, Lautoka, Nadi, and Sigatoka. Additionally, the adverse weather is predicted to affect regions of Vanua Levu, Taveuni, and the Yasawa and Mamanuca groups, along with the Lau and Lomaiviti islands.

In contrast, other areas may experience partly cloudy weather, with afternoon or evening showers and the possibility of thunderstorms. Local authorities are cautioning residents about the threat of localized heavy downpours, which could potentially lead to flash flooding in low-lying and flood-prone locations. Motorists are advised to exercise caution while driving, particularly in flooded areas, and should stay informed through weather updates. Those living near rivers and drainage systems are urged to remain vigilant and prepare for rising water levels.

As the weather system continues to develop, the public is advised to secure loose items, revise emergency plans, and keep an eye on official alerts to ensure safety in the face of the anticipated rainfall and potential storms.
