Tropical Depression 03F is currently lingering in the far northwest of Fiji, near Vanuatu, causing unsettled weather conditions across the region. According to the Vanuatu Meteorology and Geo-hazards Department, the system briefly reached category one tropical cyclone status at 6 a.m. today. However, it is expected to weaken again by this evening as it moves closer to Fiji.

While significant intensification is not anticipated, the storm’s proximity continues to pose risks of heavy rainfall, gusty winds, and flooding, particularly in northern and western Fiji. Communities and local authorities are advised to remain vigilant.

Forecasts leading up to midnight tonight predict occasional rain across most areas, with heavy downpours at times along with thunderstorms. The potential for flash flooding is a concern, especially in low-lying and flood-prone regions. Moderate north to northwest winds are projected, which will become fresh and gusty in areas experiencing heavy rain, accompanied by sea conditions ranging from moderate to rough.

Looking ahead to Wednesday, unsettled conditions are expected to persist, with rain and thunderstorms affecting most parts of the country. Continued heavy rainfall may again lead to flash flooding in low-lying areas. Winds are anticipated to be moderate to fresh, shifting from southeast to northerly directions, and will be gusty at times, while sea conditions are expected to remain moderate to rough.

Communities are urged to stay informed and prepared as the weather may bring further challenges in the days ahead.
