The Fiji Meteorological Service has issued a severe thunderstorm warning due to heavy rainfall impacting the interior and southern regions of Viti Levu, as well as southeastern areas of Vanua Levu. This alert encompasses regions from Sigatoka through the Coral Coast to Navua in Viti Levu, with concerns also for southern Bua and Cakaudrove in Vanua Levu.

The service indicated that a northerly wind flow is currently influencing the weather conditions across the country, resulting in unstable atmospheric conditions. As a result, afternoon and evening thunderstorms are anticipated, likely bringing significant rainfall to the warned areas.

Fiji Met has cautioned that severe thunderstorms could deliver intense rainfall, increasing the risk of flash flooding, particularly in low-lying and flood-prone zones. They urged the public to remain indoors when possible, avoid windows, keep children safe, and stay informed through regular weather updates.

It is expected that thunderstorm activity and heavy rainfall will persist until late afternoon or evening. Residents in affected areas are advised to stay alert, as the weather conditions can change quickly. This proactive communication aims to keep the community safe amid potential flooding and adverse weather conditions.
