Fiji is currently experiencing heavy rainfall due to a slow-moving trough of low pressure that has settled over the islands. According to a weather bulletin issued on January 11, 2026, at 6:50 PM, this adverse weather event is expected to strengthen in the coming days, potentially amplifying the rainfall.

Forecasters predict that the entire Fiji Group will encounter occasional rain, some of which could be heavy, and the possibility of thunderstorms. Significant rainfall has already been recorded over the last 24 hours, with Tubenasolo leading the way at 94.5 millimeters. Other notable rainfall totals include Nanoko at 80.0 mm, Dreketilailai at 76.5 mm, and Wairkicake at 74.0 mm.

Authorities are cautioning residents about the potential for flash flooding, particularly in low-lying and flood-prone areas, as well as informal settlements, which could disrupt traffic. Surface flooding is also expected in urban regions with inadequate drainage systems. During heavy rain, road conditions will likely deteriorate, leading to reduced visibility and an increased risk of accidents.

Individuals are urged to stay alert, follow safety recommendations, and keep informed through official weather updates to navigate these challenging conditions safely. As the rain continues, the community’s preparedness will play a crucial role in mitigating the impacts of this weather event.
