Tropical Cyclone Rae is on track to intensify into a Severe Tropical Cyclone later today, according to the latest reports from the Fiji Meteorological Office. Currently classified as a Category Two cyclone, TC Rae is situated to the northeast of Vanua Levu and is moving south-southeast towards the Lau Group.

As TC Rae approaches, heavy rain warnings have been issued for the entire Fiji region, and a gale warning is currently in effect for the eastern parts of Vanua Levu. Meteorologists are urging residents in areas likely to be affected to prepare for strong winds and substantial rainfall that could lead to flooding, particularly in low-lying regions and near major rivers.

This cyclone’s development follows the recent transition from Tropical Depression 09F to TC Rae, highlighting an evolution in weather patterns that communities need to remain vigilant about. Fiji Met Director, Misaeli Funaki, emphasized the need for residents to undertake necessary safety precautions, such as securing properties and gathering emergency supplies, in anticipation of severe weather conditions.

The current situation echoes previous weather disturbances experienced in the region, such as Tropical Disturbance 01F, which led to significant rainfall and hazardous conditions across Fiji. The importance of community preparedness and mutual support has been repeatedly highlighted during such events, with local leaders encouraging residents to stay informed and act collectively.

While the impending storm poses challenges, it also offers a chance for community resilience and solidarity as residents unite to face the storm’s impacts. By reinforcing emergency protocols and maintaining open lines of communication, communities can navigate the difficulties of this weather event more effectively.

In light of this situation, it is crucial for individuals and families to remain proactive in their preparations, demonstrating that togetherness can help mitigate the adverse effects of natural disasters.
