A weather disturbance known as Topical Disturbance 01F (TD 01F), which has a slight chance of developing into a Tropical Cyclone, is predicted to bring continued heavy rainfall across the Fiji Group until tomorrow.
As reported by the Fiji Meteorological Service, TD 01F was detected approximately 240 kilometers west of Yasawa-i-rara and about 270 kilometers west-northwest of Nadi at midday. The disturbance is currently moving southeast at a speed of around 20 kilometers per hour.
A heavy rain warning is in effect across the entire Fiji group, with strong wind warnings issued for coastal areas in the western and northern regions of Viti Levu, including Sigatoka to Nadi, Lautoka, Ba, Tavua, and Rakiraki. The warning also pertains to the interior areas of Ba, Ra, and Nadroga/Navosa, as well as other locations such as Yasawa and Mamanuca groups, Vatulele, Kadavu, Vanua Levu, Taveuni and neighboring smaller islands, and the Lau and Lomaiviti groups.
Furthermore, a flood alert is active for all flood-prone areas near and downstream of major rivers in Fiji. A flash flood warning is also in place for low-lying regions susceptible to flooding and small streams on Vanua Levu and in the interior and western parts of Viti Levu.
As TD 01F approaches, intermittent heavy rain, accompanied by thunderstorms, is expected across most areas. Localized heavy rainfall could exacerbate flash flooding risks due to already saturated ground conditions surrounding major rivers and streams. The river levels in these areas are anticipated to rise as the disturbance continues to affect the region.
In light of these developments, it’s important for local communities to stay informed and prepared for potential flooding and adverse weather conditions.
Summary: The Fiji Group is facing severe weather from Topical Disturbance 01F, promising heavy rains and strong winds, with warnings issued for flood-prone areas to ensure safety and preparedness among residents.
