A heavy rain warning has been issued for the entire Fiji Group as Tropical Depression TD07F continues to impact the region’s weather. The Fiji Meteorological Service reported that as of 3 a.m. today, the depression was located approximately 520 kilometers west-southwest of Kadavu and is moving southward at around 25 kilometers per hour.
An active trough of low pressure is contributing to widespread cloud cover and rain across the islands. The areas most likely to be affected include the Yasawa and Mamanuca Groups, as well as Western and Northern Viti Levu. This includes regions from Rakiraki to Tavua, Ba, Lautoka, Nadi, Sigatoka, the Coral Coast, and the interior locations of Viti Levu such as Interior Ba, Nadroga-Navosa, Ra, Naitasiri, Serua, and Namosi. The Lau and Lomaiviti Groups, Kadavu, and the nearby smaller islands, along with parts of the Northern Division, are also under threat of heavy rainfall.
The Weather Office has indicated that occasional rain and thunderstorms will be experienced in other areas as well. Authorities have cautioned that sustained heavy rain could result in flash flooding, particularly in low-lying and flood-prone regions. Residents are advised to remain alert and prepare for challenging weather conditions ahead.
While the situation presents risks, it also serves as a reminder of the resilience of the Fijian people in facing natural weather phenomena. With appropriate preparations, communities can work together to mitigate the impacts of such severe weather events.
