Tropical Depression 09F has officially been upgraded to Tropical Cyclone Rae, as confirmed by the Fiji Meteorological Service. The cyclone is currently moving towards the eastern regions of Fiji, particularly affecting the Northern Division, Lomaiviti, and Lau Group, alongside the windward side of the main island.

Fiji Met Director Misaeli Funaki has warned residents to expect strong winds and heavy rainfall starting later tonight, with predictions that TC Rae may intensify into a Category 2 cyclone within hours. Heavy rains are anticipated, leading to potential flooding in low-lying areas and major rivers.

Residents in the cyclone’s path are being urged to take necessary preparations to ensure their safety. Community solidarity and preparedness are highlighted as vital factors in mitigating the impacts of the severe weather. Similar weather events, such as previous disturbances like TD01F, have underscored the importance of remaining vigilant and coming together as a community during such challenges.

As the storm approaches, there is hope that unity among residents can help them weather the storm and overcome the difficulties it may bring. By reinforcing emergency plans and staying informed through local weather updates, the community can demonstrate resilience in facing these natural adversities.
