The Boxing Commission of Fiji has suspended the license of South Pacific Boxing Promotion (SPBP) and its promoter, Fredy Chand. This decision comes after a thorough investigation into the circumstances surrounding the late Ubayd Haider, a rising star in Fiji’s boxing scene.

Eroni Loganimoce, a member of the BCF board, indicated that the suspension was a result of Fredy Chand’s failure to comply with specific agreements established between the promotion and the board. Concerns regarding the welfare of boxers under SPBP, coupled with insufficient cooperation from the promoter, further influenced this decision.

Loganimoce emphasized that the safety and well-being of boxers is the top priority for the BCF. He reassured the public that steps are being taken to prevent any future incidents similar to those experienced with Haider in the local boxing environment. The BCF confirmed that the suspension took effect on Friday, November 29.

This suspension represents a significant step towards ensuring the safety and integrity of boxing in Fiji. By holding promoters accountable and prioritizing the welfare of athletes, the BCF is working to create a safer environment for current and future boxers in the region.
