Fiji Amateur Boxing is experiencing a significant boost under the leadership of national coach Cam Todd, who has been at the helm for two years. Todd is emphasizing the importance of developing grassroots talent in Fiji, which he believes has the potential to dominate the Oceania region in boxing.

Todd has made considerable strides since joining the Fiji Amateur Boxing Association, achieving notable milestones such as boxer Jone Davule’s gold medal win at the 2023 Pacific Games in the Solomon Islands—a historic victory for Fiji, marking the first gold in two decades. This success reflects Todd’s effective coaching methods and his commitment to nurturing young athletes.

Currently, Todd oversees a squad of dedicated amateur boxers aged between 14 and 17, in addition to a senior elite team. The preparations for the upcoming Pacific Mini Games in Guam later this year are already in full swing, showcasing the proactive approach Todd is taking to develop the sport further.

In addition to the promising new talent, Todd’s journey with the Fiji Amateur Boxing Association has already seen a demonstrated improvement in female participation in the sport. The number of female boxers has increased from just two to between 15 and 20, highlighting a growing inclusiveness within the sport that Todd actively promotes.

With aspirations to participate in more international competitions, including possible events in 2025 such as the USA Boxing International Open and Australian Club Championships, Fiji’s boxing community is filled with optimism. Todd’s focus on youth development and female participation sets a hopeful and promising outlook for the future of boxing in Fiji, indicating that the country is on the right path to elevating its presence in the sport on a global scale.

The commitment shown by Todd and his teams is a beacon of hope for aspiring athletes in Fiji, suggesting that with continued effort and support, a flourishing boxing culture is on the horizon.
