ZEG Boxing Promotion is making significant strides in the sports scene by launching its first-ever solo pay-per-view (PPV) boxing event in collaboration with My TV. This exciting initiative aims to make boxing more accessible to fans across Fiji while promoting the sport’s growth in the region.

Promoter Alfaaz Mallam candidly discussed the hurdles faced when organizing boxing events, noting that financial gain is often elusive. “Promoters rarely make any profits from boxing promotions,” Mallam stated. However, he underscored the importance of providing boxers with opportunities to showcase their skills, emphasizing that without such chances, they cannot truly shine in their careers.

The upcoming event is set to feature up to 10 bouts, including a highly anticipated bantamweight title match between Fiji’s own Junior Binnu Singh and experienced Indian boxer and trainer Varun. This international clash is designed to elevate the competition’s excitement and quality.

Stanley Simpson, Director of My TV, expressed enthusiasm about the partnership, describing it as a significant challenge and an important milestone for the network. “This is our first boxing pay-per-view, and it’s a great challenge,” Simpson remarked. He added that PPV represents the future of sports broadcasting, offering a sustainable model to support various sports and providing fans with the opportunity to enjoy top-tier boxing from the comfort of their homes.

Simpson highlighted My TV’s previous success in delivering PPV content for other sports, such as football and rugby sevens, establishing it as a viable avenue for generating revenue that can contribute to sports development in Fiji.

The partnership between ZEG Boxing and My TV aims to bring increased attention to boxing while enhancing the overall quality of matches in the nation. Mallam asserted the importance of international exposure for local fighters, stating, “If we only fight among ourselves here, we can’t measure success or grow.” He believes that bringing in international competitors will not only improve the skill sets of Fijian boxers but also help them gain the recognition they deserve.

With aspirations for Fijian boxers to reach the heights of international champions akin to the country’s renowned rugby players, this inaugural PPV event marks a crucial step forward. ZEG Boxing and My TV are paving the way for a revival of boxing in Fiji, promising fans thrilling matchups and a new era for the sport.
