Day one of the Fiji Bitter Malake 7s showcased exhilarating rugby as teams competed vigorously in both the U21 and men’s divisions to secure crucial victories in their pool matches.
In the U21 category, five teams remained undefeated following two rounds. Vatukoro U21 narrowly defeated Radisson Naduruniu 12-7 in a tough second match, while Village Boys dominated Duiyasana with a score of 28-12.
TEMC Birdland Brothers continued their strong performance, recording a 10-0 shutout against Survivor Burotu. Defending champions AJ Pallets Ba River displayed their strength by overwhelming Namara 31-5, and Dominion Brothers Blue concluded the day’s play with a 15-0 win over Uluisuvani.
Earlier in the first round, Vatukoro secured a convincing 17-5 victory over Dominion Brothers Red, while Village Boys showcased their prowess with a 15-0 win against Survivor Brothers. TEMC Birdland Brothers made a statement with a 29-0 triumph over Duiyasana, and AJ Pallets Ba River emerged victorious with a 12-0 defeat of Midland.
The men’s division also delivered thrilling moments. The reigning Kadavu 7s champions, Wardens Gold, kicked off their tournament with a powerful 19-0 victory over Bularoos Rugby, while Vatukoro Brothers took down Midland 17-5. Namuaniwaqa overwhelmed Naiova with a 19-0 win, and Fire Rugby claimed victory by default against Nawaka.
The local team, Malake, secured a close 7-5 win over Viwa Rugby, while Namara Rugby narrowly defeated Army FTG 14-7. Dominion Brothers impressively beat Yaro Chiefs 26-0, and Mataravua One triumphed over Taikita Brothers with a score of 29-12. The largest victory of the day belonged to M. Recht Devo Babas, who dominated Senibiau Blues 34-0, and Uluinakau Babas also claimed a comfortable 19-0 win over Namacuku Brothers.
